 Fairtrade Backlash: Coffee Company Amid Buyer Scandal
Green Coffee Company Names New Senior Buyer in Response to Humiliating Backlash

Tampa, Florida – Recently, Stakeholders, consumers and employees were disheartened to learn that @FTCoffeeCo sourced coffee products from “big box” suppliers within the past month, not from their current fairtrade partners. For decades the green coffee retailer has been certified by Fairtrade International, one of only 1,800 coffee distributors worldwide to be recognized by Fairtrade International certification. The coffee retailer quickly opened an inquiry into how and why this happened.

Knowing that consumers have a direct path to a company’s high-level staff, Twitter has become the norm for airing grievances. Joanne Edmonds, VP of Public Relations at FT Coffee Co. says, “72% of Twitter users expect a reply in less than one hour. Therefore, our goal is to exceed that expectation and to provide empathy and transparency in response to this situation.” The company named Jessica Smith new senior buyer replacing Ronald Stump.
